High Five for Friday

I can't believe I missed this link up last week! Just as much as I have missed some of my beautiful followers. I've been really really bad about commenting on some of your posts lately, but I promise, I've got a little chunk of my day set aside just for you! Here's the top five highlights from my past two weeks:

1. The boyfriend and I went to see the new Spiderman movie this week. It was alright, but if you're a nerd like me, you won't be able to get over the differences between original Spidey and this one. However, they did do some good things in this movie that they didn't in the first 3 movies.

2. I changed up my hairstyle quite a bit!

3. Total new blog design. I personally love it! You?

4. I made my first attempt at sewing using Caroline's paper skirt DIY. Let's just say, I didn't quite read all the directions and somehow sewed it completely shut. I'm a nerd.

5. Free coffee on the 4th of July? Who wouldn't take advantage of that?!

I hope you all had a great week and a safe 4th of July holiday!

Guest Post from The Homebaker Life

Happy 4th of July to my American followers! (And a belated Canadian day for all you great folks!) I hope that every one of you has a great and perfectly safe holiday.
On this great holiday, I am so happy to introduce my sister, Amanda, to you today! She's extremely new to the blogging world, so go show her a little love from me? She's currently expecting, at about 5 months, and it feels like it's going so fast. I'm so excited to have my first nephew, and spoil the crap out of him!
------------------------------------------------------
First of all, I want to say a big thank you to Kara for asking me to write a post. Such an honor! She's pretty much the best sister ever. Be jealous. :)

The biggest thing consuming my thoughts right now is decorating the nursery for our first baby, so I figured I would share what I've got going on so far. I hope you enjoy! We found out about a month ago that we're having a baby boy, and I was glad to finally know the gender so I could start setting things in stone. We have a name, we've purchased a few outfits (including the going home outfit I bought yesterday!), and now we have a plan for the nursery! My starting off point was this beautiful rug from Urban Outfitters. It is on backorder and should be here by the end of the month!
My theory: Anything baby doesn't poop on is mine when he wants to have a football/boy room, so I might as well get cute stuff I can move to my office (or the next baby's nursery) when he gets older. Right?

So apparently I like teal! I decided on this color palette and am loving it:
We've already set up the crib, and now we're down to just a rocking chair for the major purchases. It's crazy how much money I want to spend for such a tiny human! Here's my attempt at an inspiration board:
Pretty much everything is Target, gotta love it. The mobile in the bottom corner is my newest project made from coffee stirrer straws and string - less than $10? Yes, please! I found the idea at http://www.hopehelmsblog.com/2012/02/diy-modern-himmeli-mobile/

So I've learned that I like bold colors and sharp angles, and I hope baby and you do too! Check out my blog in a few months for the finished product!

Hey Big Haircut!

I'm assuming we all watch The Office and that title totally makes sense, right?
Well I made some huge changes to my hair last week! I was in an amazing need of a makeover, so I decided to chop off about 10 inches, and dye it so it was all one color. My roots were awful. Imagine a huge oak tree that's grown for like 80 years. My roots were that bad and long, and just plain old ugly. Instead of continuing to talk about it, I'll just show you!
I think we can all agree, this worked out for the best! I used the new John Frieda foam hair dye, and fell in love too. I was able to dye it all by myself, which is usually a 2 woman job. I totally recommend it!

PS that's my new insert for my iPhone DIY case.
